Bill is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader and practitioner who works with clients on issues of strategic planning, organizational succession, board development, private philanthropy, regional partnerships, and coalition building. As Executive Director of The Big Sur Land Trust and most recently, as Executive Director of the Maryland Environmental Trust, Bill has focused his work on repositioning the conservation movement and the organizations he has served to be more diverse, connected, and aligned with 21st-century challenges related to building healthy and resilient local communities. His efforts have promoted regional collaboration to achieve landscape-scale conservation and strategic land use partnerships to tackle land use issues tied to climate change, clean water, and environmental justice. Prior to the Land Trust, Bill worked for over a decade at The Nature Conservancy, leading regional landscape conservation efforts in Missouri and California. Bill holds several board and advisory positions and is former Chair of the Board of the California Council of Land Trusts where he served on the Conservation Horizons task force, focused on broadening constituencies for land conservation in California. Before embarking on his career in land conservation, Bill had a successful commercial real estate practice. He graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Vanderbilt University.
